Get outside and get ready to garden!! The first step is cleaning out the old debris and detritus from last season…use your gardening tools, gardening gloves, and weed killer to make your space look fresh and prepare it for planting! Use a kneeling pad or garden bench for comfort and keep your garden cart nearby to hold all of your supplies. Next, get ready to start planting! Grab some seeds (veggie or flower), plant support stakes to hold your new plants steady, and maybe even a potting bench which is perfect for putting flowers in planters or a planter box which makes a great decor piece. Once your flowers are planted, give them a little plant food so they grow big and strong, water them regularly with this expandable garden hose, and prune them as needed using these finger guards for protection. You are now on your way to having the garden of your dreams!

The cool fall weather is the best weather for snuggling up outside with a blanket and a hot beverage. If you’re lucky enough to have an outdoor space to hang out and relax, spruce it up this season so you can really enjoy and appreciate it. Our queen Kristy has a huge, gorgeoussss wrap-around porch and she is taking full advantage of it this fall! Check out her beautiful front porch redo below for some decoration inspiration.

Frugal and Thriving may earn a small commission via affiliate links in this post. See full disclosure here.

Autumn decor calls for pumpkins, mums, warm wood accents, and neutral colors with pops of fall-favorite hues like orange and red. This clean, contemporary look can be easily changed throughout the seasons. A designated entry area that’s separate from a seating area gives the porch a continuous flow while making it look even bigger. Using decorations that complement each other help tie the two areas together.

Wooden Storage Bench | Striped Layering Rug | Pillow Covers | Pillow Inserts | Olive Tree (70″) | Seagrass Planter

The entry area is kept simple and clean with a white wooden storage bench (perfect for packages, outdoor pillows, or blankets!) and just a few other decorations. A striped layering rug under the bench creates a cute little seating area (it’s also a great spot for taking pictures), and an artificial tree – this one is an olive tree – in a natural seagrass-style planter adds a touch of liveliness. Dress the bench up with seasonal throw pillows and voila! You have an effortlessly chic entryway. Also part of the redo, but just out of frame, are mums and pumpkins lining the staircase, bringing a dash of bright beauty to the porch.

Wicker Chairs | Wicker Table | Area Rug | Nesting Tables | Lanterns | Fall Garland | Plaid Throw Blanket |
“Fall” Sign | Candle | Vases (from Decocrated Halloween 2020 Box) | Cotton Stems | Door Wreath

A cozy seating area is essential for enjoying your outdoor space. These wingback wicker chairs are stylish and sophisticated, and the matching wicker table with a wooden slatted top balances the lines of the chairs with its rounded shape, adding dimension to the seating area. This gorgeous light gray furniture is accented well with a slightly darker gray woven area rug. Avoid going too large with the area rug…you want it to be just a tad smaller than the actual seating area so the furniture can really steal the show. Add extra room for decorations, drinks, or snacks with nesting tables. These steel-framed nesting tables with a rich wooden top are sleek and striking next to the light gray chairs.

The seating area is decorated with fall garland, a soft plaid throw blanket, vases with cotton stems, a candle, and a fall sign. Add other small details like coffee mugs or stemless wineglasses, coasters, books, or magazines.

Nesting Tables | Vases | Cotton Stems | Candle | “Fall” Sign

A festive fall sign and a seasonally scented candle, along with these peek-a-boo vases (from the Decocrated Halloween 2020 box!) filled with cotton stems and fairy lights are the perfect finishing touches to the nesting tables.

Lanterns | Wooden Beads

These lanterns filled with tiny white pumpkins are adorable accent pieces. You can also fill them with pillar candles, fairy lights, or faux leaves and garland for more variety. A sweet string of wooden beads (from the Decocrated Fall 2021 box) adds a little bit of color and coordinates the lanterns with the rest of the decor.

And just like that, Kristy has a charming new front porch for fall!! What do you think? Would you hang out here? I know I would! Let us know which of these pieces you’re loving and adding to your outdoor space.

Ah, the great outdoors. Fresh air, forest landscapes, and fireside sing-alongs…camping, hiking, fishing, and stargazing. Getting out into the wild and appreciating nature can be so healing and renewing. So grab your s’mores ingredients and your best scary stories because we’ve rounded up all your camping and hiking essentials to help you prepare for a weekend away in the woods.

Essential Equipment

When preparing for your hiking or camping adventure it’s important to pack all the necessities. Obviously a tent, blanket, bug repellant, and survival kit are the basics. Add in cookware, a portable grill, coffee maker, water filter, and beverage holders to ensure your nutritional needs are met, and don’t forget your backpack (you can fit most of your gear in here)!
