These adorable and delicious heart-inspired snacks (and a yummy drink, too!) are a perfectly festive way to feel the love and make special memories together. See the recipes below and start some new Valentine’s Day traditions.

Chocolate-Covered Strawberry Lollipops

Frugal and Thriving may earn a small commission via affiliate links in this post. See full disclosure here.

How cute are these chocolate-covered strawberry lollipops?! This snack is a little healthy, a little indulgent, and a whole lotta delicious.

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

  • Wash strawberries and let soak in 3 cups water and 1 cup of vinegar for 15 minutes (this will also help them last longer in the fridge)
  • Cut tops off strawberries and then cut in half
  • Cut a small “v” at the tops of the strawberries to make into a heart shape
  • Put sticks into bottom of strawberries
  • Melt chocolate chips in 20 second increments (you can put a small amount of milk – about 1.5 Tbs – with chocolate chips to prevent burning) and stir until melted
  • Dip strawberries in chocolate first and then into sprinkle mix
  • Place on cookie sheet with wax paper and put in fridge for about 20-30 minutes to allow chocolate to harden
  • Enjoy!!

Heart Hug Pretzels

Salty meets sweet with these heart hug pretzels. They’re super easy to make and look as good as they taste!

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

  • Preheat oven to 350°
  • Place pretzels on a parchment-lined cookie sheet
  • Put Hershey’s Hugs & Kisses on top of pretzels
  • Bake for 1 to 2 minutes (until chocolate is soft enough to press M&M’s into)
  • Press M&M’s into chocolates – (if chocolate is too soft, let harden a bit before continuing)
  • Allow chocolate to harden completely and enjoy!

Sweetheart Buddies

This crunchy delight is perfect for sharing with your sweetheart! Make your mix, put on your favorite romantic movie, and enjoy.

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

  • Divide Chex cereal into two bowls (2 1/2 cups each)
  • In microwave – melt chocolate chips with 1/2 tsp of shortening (to help evenly spread) in 30 sec increments (careful not to burn chocolate)
  • Melt the red candy next with other 1/2tsp of shortening
  • Pour over each bowl of Chex cereal
  • Use a large zip lock bag or Tupperware container with lid to mix 1/2 cup of strawberry cake mix and 1/4 cup of powdered sugar (for each bowl) together – add Chex cereal – close lid and shake until completely covered
  • Repeat previous step for the second bowl of Chex mix
  • In a large bowl mix together both bowls of Chex cereal and add 1/2 bag of M&M’s – stir together and then enjoy!

Love Bug Cocktail

This Love Bug Valentine’s Day drink can be kid-friendly or adult-friendly and is so much fun to sip on! Pair with one of the festive snacks above or have it on its own as a yummy happy-hour treat.

INGREDIENTS:

The pink wooden words are from the BluGrainCreations shop on Etsy and now through February 28th, you can use code KRISTY10 for 10% off anything in the shop! Christmas Eve night is full of excitement and anticipation, and Kristy’s family has a sweet yearly tradition to make the most of their time spent waiting for Santa and his reindeer to climb down the chimney and leave gifts under the tree. ‘Twas the night before Christmas when one handsome boy and one darling girl, put their most festive clothes on with a prance and a twirl. All decked out in red, cream, and gold, the sweet children were angels and did just as they’re told. In the car and off to Grandma’s they go, for a special visit from Santa, “ho, ho, ho!” After the gifts are exchanged, Mom’s homemade cookies are passed around. Snickerdoodle and thumbprints and toffee abound! Hugs and kisses for all and back home they go, for the night’s far from over, and it’s starting to snow!

Elf Gift Boxes

‘Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, the kids were searching for elf boxes while the puppies helped browse. The parents sat back with their glasses of wine and appreciated these moments when all was just fine. Goodies were waiting in the boxes to be found, all from their Elf on the Shelf as his way of saying, “Thanks for letting me hang around!” Hello Kitty treats for the girl for she loved the feline so dear, and of course, for the boy, Spiderman was his favorite this year. PJ’s, socks, an ornament, and more, the kids are always delighted with these new treasures to adore.

Once the boxes are found and the cocoa’s been sipped, it’s off to bed for the kiddos for a long night’s kip. The cookies and milk for Santa have been laid out with care, plus some carrots for Rudolph and the reindeer to share. Sweet dreams to everyone, close your eyes and sleep tight. A very merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!!

With all of the gift shopping to be done for everyone else during the holiday season, it’s easy to forget about ourselves. And yes, while it is better to give than to receive, you know what it’s like being on the giving end, and when you have no idea what to gift someone, a little wish list certainly comes in handy! I love picking a few reasonably priced items that I can send to family and friends I know I’ll be getting a gift from. It’s more of a guideline than anything else, but I think these lists can be super helpful and eliminate some of the holiday stress! See what Kristy and I have on our holiday gift wish lists below.

You don’t have to be a professional interior designer to make your home look like it should be in a magazine! A few tricks of the trade, a handful of statement decorations, and a little personality can go a long way. When it comes to decorating shelves for the holidays, you can fully embrace the spirit of the season while still showcasing your unique style…it’s simple! Check out Kristy’s festively decorated shelves below and see how see pulled some of her favorite holiday pieces together.

The key to decorating your shelves for the holidays is finding balance. Place smaller items in groups or next to larger pieces, choose one or two items to be standout pieces, keep all of the colors in the same color scheme, and add a little greenery for a touch of liveliness.

This wooden tile ledge set (available in 7 different styles) is a sweet way to dress up your shelves for the holidays! Balance the long, low profile with taller, more compact items like this beautiful Lenox deer figurine and tree silhouette photo frame from Decocrated.

Kristy put together this gorgeous nativity scene herself using a statue set and accent pieces like this miniature pine tree and metal star pedestal to complete the look. She also took this tobacco basket and embellished it with this artificial cedar and pine wreath (attached with these) to create her own decorative piece. The white statues really stand out against the darker background items.

Gnomes are a group favorite and item, and this adorable plush pair found their home next to this color-coordinated wooden sign from Decocrated. Red, gray, and cream are clean, modern colors for the holiday.

This vintage Christmas truck is coming straight from the Christmas tree farm with a couple of lush green trees in tow (bonus: they light up!!). The metal, antique design adds a classic touch to any holiday decor…this is definitely a statement piece!

But wait, there’s more! How inviting does this fireplace look surrounded by holiday decor and the mantle hung with nametag-labeled cable knit stockings (with ones for the pups, too) and adorned with fresh cedar tip boughs?? I know I could spend hours cuddled up here in all the coziness!

Mr. Snowman is a friendly face with a smile that lights up as bright as the lamppost he guards, and with the help of his cardinal friends, safely guides the way back home. This little guy fits right in with the rest of the color scheme and adds a dash of personality.

Looking for a sleigh ride in the snow? Craving a cup of hot cocoa to sip on? Or maybe you just want to snuggle up next to a nice, warm fire at the ski lodge…whatever activity is on your mind, this signpost from Decocrated will point you in the right direction! This is a larger decoration that works great as a standalone piece.

Christmas trees may just be the most versatile holiday decorations out there. With so many types of trees to choose from, real or artificial, and an endless amount of ornaments and decorations to adorn it, you can really tailor your tree to showcase your individual style and personality. Whether you like classic, cutesy, or chic, making your Christmas tree your own is one of the best parts of prepping for the holidays. See our trees, and how we like to decorate them, below.

The Family Tree

This is Kristy’s family tree, and it’s her pride and joy! As a collector of Christmas ornaments, she has curated a gorgeous collection over the years and the resulting tree is a sentimental statement piece. Filled with unique ornaments that mark special moments and occasions in her and her family’s lives, her favorite thing to do is curl up with a cup of coffee and reminisce in the glow of the Christmas lights. Also, this 7.5ft tree happened to be left behind, brand new and never used, by the old owners of her house and was found one day tucked away in the back of the attic…what a lucky find!

This ornament is from Kristy’s family’s first trip to Disney this year. A replica of Cinderella’s castle and other Disney landmarks sit encased inside an iridescent glass Mickey Mouse head. This is Kristy’s favorite ornament!

This little chocolate bar is straight from Hershey Park, where Kristy’s now-husband proposed to her on the weekend of her 30th birthday. How sweet!!

As a business owner, Kristy spends a lot of her time getting work done, and her husband likes to tease her about how hard she works! This grumpy elf sings a little jingle about “taking care of business.” Very fitting.

The Kids’ Tree

Tree | Tree Collar | Bow Tree Topper

Because her family tree is carefully coordinated and decorated, Kristy also puts up a tree (this is a 6.5ft pencil tree) just for the kids so they can join in on the decorating fun! Every year, Elf on the Shelf brings her kids a box of themed goodies filled with items from their favorite characters of the moment, which includes a Christmas ornament. Spiderman, Lion King, Minnie Mouse, and Frozen have been just a few!!

This Disney castle ornament from Lenox is silver-plated, topped with 24k gold accents, and makes a beautiful addition to any tree. Embossed with the year 2021, it’s a commemoration of Kristy’s family trip to Disney this past fall.

If you’re familiar with the story of “The Polar Express,” then you know the meaning behind this bell from Santa’s sleigh! It represents the magic of Christmas and serves as a reminder to believe.

The Grinch is a holiday classic, and this ornament depicts the story of how this mischievous, misunderstood outcast from Whoville tries to steal Christmas.

This Tangled Rapunzel stained-glass ornament and this Frozen Elsa ornament (she sings!!) are both favorites of Kristy’s daughter and add fun princess magic to the kids’ tree.

The Mini Tree

Your tree doesn’t have to be big to be beautiful! I love having and decorating my own tree, but my apartment isn’t very large and I don’t have the room for a full-sized tree. I grabbed this 4.5ft pre-lit tree and I love it! I really made it my own by decking it out in black and gold (my favorite colors) and it fits perfectly in my small space without being overwhelming.

I kept the decorations simple with with these black and gray ball ornaments and gold glitter poinsetta flowers. The animal-print Mickey Mouse heads were a gift from my sister when she went to Disney years ago, but they really complement my black and gold theme, and I love the personal element they add to the tree.

All that glitters IS gold if this tree skirt is any indication! I wasn’t sure if the sequins would be too much in a small space, but I got a smaller skirt (36″) and I am obsessed with it. The sequins add some fun sparkle, and it looks gorgeous glittering under the lights of the tree at night.

Thanks for reading! What are some of your favorite ways to decorate your tree? Let us know xo.
