If you want to make a whole week of it, doing a color a day for your teacher with each color having some kind of “theme” is a fun idea. Kristy did this for her daughter’s teacher! For red, the first day, it’s all about the teacher….the things she likes and things to spoil her with for the days she’s not teaching. Items include a Bogg bag, apple candle, Sol de Janeiro kit, and a self-care book.

Tag: “ Roses are RED & Apples are too! You’re the best teacher ever, we’re so thankful for you.”

Orange, day two, is focused on recognizing the growth she’s given the students. She also loves to garden, so this is perfect! Orange items include drinking glasses, a succulent, a personalized planter, a mister, and a seed kit.

Tags: “ ORANGE you just such a SUN-sational teacher!“ and “Thank you for helping us grow!“

Day three is yellow, a bright and shining color, so these items show her that she’s the star to the kids. Yellow gifts include a tote, lip balm, hand sanitizer, paper weights, a t-shirt, an essential oil pen, a pillow for the reading corner, and a coffee mug, of course!

Tags: “Thank you for being the STAR that taught them to SHINE“ and “The influence of a good teacher can never be erased.”

Green, day four, is a day for the classroom! These gifts are things she can use in and around like classroom, like a utility cart, Sharpies, a label maker, a pencil sharpener, a journal, essential oils, and modular seats for the kids.

Tags: “Thank you for your Commit•Mint Involve•mint Encourage•mint Invest•mint” and “Green with envy are those who wish they had you for a teacher!“

Blue, the final day, is for all things lunch!! Items include a lunch carrier, a mini to-go Crockpot, a Bentgo container, a snacks bag, a sand art light that’s great for lunchtime relaxation or meditation, and a Stanley tumbler.

Tags: “Just something out of the blue to say we appreciate you!“ and “We appreciate you a whole bunch, so please enjoy some lunch!“

And if you’d rather do one gift on Teacher Appreciation Day (May 7th), a gift bag stuffed with self-care goodies is always a hit! Grab a tote and fill it with Sharpies, this cute acrylic desk sign, a canvas pouch with keychains, body scrub, body wash, lip balm, a lip mask, face masks, and a facial scrub!

Summer = party time! Grad parties, pool parties, backyard BBQs, and holiday soirées…summer is the season of celebrations. Make sure you’re party ready with one of these gorgeous getups.

Maybe you’re all work and no play. Which is okay, but don’t ignore the benefits of a healthy work-life balance! These dresses will have you looking chic in the office, and they can definitely be worn to date night after, too!

Pool days, beach trips, and lake vacations. Whatever your preferred form of water-centric recreation, get yourself a swimsuit to rock that will steal the show.

Don’t forget your coverup! These will come in handy when you’re trying to enjoy your liquid lunch at one of those “no shirt, no shoes, no service” places.

And if you’re team #summerbod, grab a few workout pieces that will make you excited to get your sweat on.

See the dishes below.

Happy Earth Day, Frugal and Thrivers! Today we are celebrating our precious planet and doing our part to leave this world a better place than how we found it. Mother Earth needs our help and every little bit counts! See our list below of ways you can show your appreciation for nature and help save our planet.

Around the House

Recycle: Recycle, recycle, recycle! One of the best ways to help our planet is by recycling. Check your town or city’s recycling policies and procedures and then start separating your cardboard, paper, plastic, and glass from your regular trash.

Frugal and Thriving may earn a small commission via affiliate links in this post. See full disclosure here.

Use reusable food storage bags: Forget single-use plastic food storage bags and opt for reusable storage bags instead. With all different shapes, sizes, and colors available, you can take your food to go and store your leftovers sans guilt and in style!

Use reusable shopping bags: And while you’re ditching the plastic bags, start shopping with eco-friendly reusable tote bags, too! Keep some in your car so you always have a few handy for those surprise last-minute shopping trips.

Shop smart: Organic foods without overpaying? Yes please. Thrive Market offers organic groceries (plus home and beauty products) from top brands for up to 30% off. Plus, their free carbon neutral shipping delivers your orders right to your doorstep!

Eat plant-based: Eating just one plant-based meal a week can make a huge difference. Get the family onboard for Meatless Mondays…grab a vegan cookbook if you need some plant-based meal inspiration!

Use earth-friendly cleaning products: Go green when you clean! Using earth-friendly cleaning products is not only good for the planet, it’s good for you, too! Check out top brands like Seventh Generation and Ecos.

Clean beauty: Clean beauty products use clean ingredients (meaning non-toxic) and transparent labels (meaning the brand makes an effort to list all product ingredients and label accordingly). A clean beauty product avoids the use of harmful and toxic ingredients. Good for your skin, good for the earth.

Wear sustainable clothing: Support the greater good of the planet by wearing sustainable clothing from brands like TOMS, pact, and tentree. If you aren’t ready to commit to making your wardrobe entirely eco-friendly, a safe bet is to stick with clothing made from natural fabrics…think cotton and linen.

Upcycle/donate old clothes: Old and outdated clothes, toys, and household items can be upcycled into something new or donated to those in need. Get rid of clutter and help our planet – it’s a win-win.

Outdoors

Spend time outdoors: Spending time outdoors, even for just a few minutes a day, is great for your body, mind, and soul, and will also help you develop an appreciation for nature.

DIY birdfeeders: Make a DIY birdfeeder and give your feathered friends a delicious snack. Watch them come back time and time again and learn a little more about these beautiful creatures.

Walk/bike when possible: If you live in a walkable area, walk or bike instead of driving when you run errands, meet a friend for coffee, or pick the kids up from school…especially as the weather gets warmer! It’s the perfect way to sneak in some exercise, get a little fresh air, and cut down on your carbon footprint.

Outdoor cleanup day: Organize an outdoor cleanup day with your family, friends, or community! All you need are some trash bags and gloves. Find any park or wilderness area nearby and spend a few hours making it a little more pristine.

flat lay photography of variety of vegetables

Vegetable garden: Start your own vegetable garden so you can save money, get in touch with nature, and always have fresh, delicious food at your fingertips! It’s easier than you think. See our post for tips on how to grow your own veggies.

Plant a tree: And if an entire garden is a little too much of a commitment, then plant a tree and watch it grow year after year. Plant one every Earth Day and help make this world cleaner, brighter, and better for everyone.

Decorating Easter eggs is one of the best parts of celebrating this hoppy springtime holiday (outranked only by the chocolate, of course). And if you love traditional Easter egg dyeing, we see you and we support you!! But for those of you who would like to venture outside of the vinegar and food coloring box, we’ve rounded up some really fun alternative options for decorating those eggs!! See our favorites below.

DIY Clay Ornaments

Kristy made these DIY clay Easter egg ornaments with her daughter last year and we cannot get over how adorable they are! Plus, they’re pretty easy to make and the decorating possibilities are endless. This exciting activity will allow your child to really get hands-on and tap into their creativity.

Ingredients for the dough:

  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup salt
  • 1/2 cup water

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 250°
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper
  • Stir together all three ingredients together until a dough forms. Using a rolling pin – roll out your dough until it’s about 1/4” thick
  • Cut out your egg shapes – these cookie cutters are super helpful
  • Place the salt dough Easter eggs on parchment-covered baking sheets. Remember to make a hole in the dough shapes so you can hang the ornaments — a straw works perfectly!
  • Bake at 250° for 2 hours
  • Once baked and fully cooled – it’s painting time!! I used acrylic paint, but you can use spray paint as well!
  • When paint has completely dried, you can use paint pens or even stickers (that’s what we used). I did use a clear coat sealer afterwards to make them last longer and keep the stickers from falling off
  • Use twine or ribbon to hang your beautiful creations

Little leprechauns came to spread some St. Patrick’s Day cheer at Kristy’s house and first up was her year-round Christmas tree. Adorned with sparkling shamrocks, glittering green globes, and leprechaun gnomes, this tree is like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

The lively leprechauns adorn the mantle as they play peek-a-boo from behind this hand-painted wooden sign. This gorgeous 24″ clock hangs all year long but is definitely worth a mention!!

Bring on the shenanigans! This cute farmhouse-style sign and faux olive tree accented with green beaded garland makes a chic St. Patrick’s Day display.

These sweet wooden shamrocks bring blessings of love and luck. Place a bowl of Hershey Kisses on a lazy susan with these clovers and be ready for whenever you hear “kiss me, I’m Irish!”

If you’ve got kiddos, leave them special St. Patrick’s Day treats from your playful leprechauns. Put a few festive centerpieces on a green and gold tablecloth and decorate with chocolate gold coins, shamrock confetti, and fun St. Patrick’s Day accessories.
