Basic Tops: Layers are a must, and as the weather gets warmer you’re going to want to stock up on tanks and short sleeves. Go for a basic black tank or a high-neck bodysuit tank. Then grab a ruffled sleeve tee for a dash of personality, and finish with a simple button down that will go with everything.

Sweaters: A few different sweaters will keep you cozy when the weather is still cool. We love this open-front long cardigan, this cropped button up cardigan, and this comfy pullover sweater!

Bottoms: Have some fun with these! You should definitely have a classic pair of jeans, but then bring the style with a pair of pastel trousers, a ruched skirt, and a patterned dress.

Shoes: Spring shoes call for the sandals!! While you may think this is preemptive, once those first warm weather days strike, it’s time to take out the toesies. Grab a pair of heeled sandals, flat strappy sandals, and chic flats.

Every season is sweater season! Whether you’re snuggling up inside in the winter, fighting off the morning chill in the spring, staying warm at night in the summer, or enjoying the cool fall breeze, a sweater is always appropriate attire. These sweater styles from Francesca’s are a bit trendy, a touch timeless, and a wholeeee lotta cozy. See the roundup below.

An earth-toned sweater is an essential for your closet because it’s great for all seasons! This one with a textured crisscross pattern easily adds flair to a simple pair of leggings or jeans.

This marled sweater puts a fun spin on your basic ivory piece. With threads of blue and gray, this sweater is perfect for winter to spring.

This pastel ombre duster cardigan is so snuggly for those chilly spring days. Plus it has pockets, and a sweater with pockets is always a win!

This is a cute quarter-zip style! It’s more of a crocheted top, so it’s great to wear through the weeks as the weather gets a bit (hopefully) warmer.

Flowers mean spring and this feminine floral sweater screams “bring on the blooms!” The delicate flowers give this top a very romantic vibe.

And this flower power sweater is a bright and bold version of the floral style! The pretty pinks and oranges are calling for days of sweet sunshine.

This wrap sweater is a flirty style that still feels cozy. While it can be worn alone, I recommend layering a tank under for a little extra coverage.

This preppy cropped cardigan is a great way to add a splash of spring color without going overboard. The striped border and big buttons bring a subtle chic style to the piece.

Color block AND animal print? Yes and yes. This sweater has it alltrendy style, a fun pattern, and a dash of springtime panache.

And if you want to go full-on walkin’ on the wild side, this cheetah/zebra print mash-up will have you feeling as fierce as you look!!

Jeans – they can be your best friend or your worst enemy! Finding a pair of denim that fits well, feels good, and is on-trend is like finding a diamond in the rough. We’re here to do some of the hard work for you though. Krista hit the stores to try on some of this season’s hottest styles and she’s sharing her honest reviews with all of you! See our spring jean styles roundup below.

Express Baggy Jeans

Frugal and Thriving may earn a small commission via affiliate links in this post. See full disclosure here.

If you’re on the internet at all, you know baggy jeans are definitely back in style. The slouchy, “too cool for school” look isn’t for everyone though, and I didn’t love the way these looked or fit. These ran TTS, but they were longer than I would’ve have wanted.

Old Navy Midrise Boyfriend Jeans

A classic straight jean with a little distressing! I ended up buying these…they felt great and ran TTS. They weren’t overly baggy, and I was impressed with the look and fit!

Express Belted Jeans

Back to baggy!! These had a cute a little jean belt to give them extra flair, but I just couldn’t get on board with the looser fit in the legs. These were extremely long, but fit TTS in waist.

Old Navy Wow Straight Jeans

These slim straight jeans were not a favorite of mine. They were too bunchy and baggy at the ankle and fit a little tight in the waist.

Old Navy Cutoff Jeans

These high-waisted cutoff jeans were another winning pair! I had to buy them – I loved the fit and the color and they felt amazing on.

Express Bootcut Jeans

I really wanted the bootcut jeans to work – these are a dressier style that are cute for work or for date night! But this particular pair was sooo long and had a lot of stretch. *sigh*

Old Navy Cuffed Jeans

At first I didn’t really like these cuffed jeans (I thought the cuff was a little much), but looking back at photos, I wish I got them and will go back to get them at some point. I think they would be great for spring. *unfortunately this style isn’t in stock on the Old Navy site anymore, but a cuffed jean is a trendy look this season!

Old Navy Flare Jeans

These flare jeans could definitely be sized down. They were huge and very stretchy and very long.

Refreshing your wardrobe for spring can be simple and inexpensive if you stick to a few basic rules! Pick staple pieces that you can mix and match and wear over and over again to get you through the season, and pick colors that you love (we’re digging florals and pastels for spring!). Fill your closet with lots of neutrals and then add a few pops of color in complementary shades. Shop our spring capsule wardrobe guide below.

Tops: Pick tops that are simple and lightweight and choose a variety of colors that you can mix and match. A white tank bodysuit, a white v-neck tee, a gray tee, a yellow long-sleeve top, and a baby blue sweater are all tops that say, “I’m ready for spring!” and are perfect for layering.

Bottoms: Opt for bottoms that can be dressed up or down and worn for multiple occasions. Grab a pair of light wash high-waisted jeans, neutral linen pants, a pretty floral midi skirt, and a fun floral maxi dress and wear them for work or play!

Jackets and Cardigans: Since the spring weather can be a little fickle, you’ll definitely want a few cute jacket and cardigan options you can rotate through. A button-up cardigan in dusty rose, a floral kimono, a distressed jean jacket, and a cotton twill trench coat will have you covered (literally) no matter the temperature or weather.

Shoes: Everyone knows shoes can make or break an outfit! Keep your style on point with a pair of pink rainboots, nude ankle strap heels, gray slip-on sneakers, and white strappy slide sandals.
