Memorial Day: honoring our veterans and celebrating what many might say is the official start of the summer season! School is winding down and everyone is scheduling their pool openings, cleaning their grills, and filling their propane tanks, gearing up for yet another BBQ season! A friend of mine says that if she can’t put it on the grill, it’s not getting cooked, and I love that! I just happen to be the grill master in my household as well, so I am always on the lookout for BBQ-related deals to keep it fun and yummy for the family and simple for me! Hosting a Memorial Day BBQ this year? I’ve got some of your essentials covered!

I have had my eye on a Blackstone Grill for a while now…it is so versatile, and I love that I would be able to cook breakfast using the breakfast kit and make fun hibachi-style meals. The 10-year anniversary of owning our home is coming up on the 30th of May, so the house may or may not be getting one…SURPRISE hubby (because I know he’s reading this) it’s happening! I can’t just get the grill without getting all of the accessories for it, so I have also been checking out the much-needed grill cover, and of course, the griddle master kit and spatula griddle set to get me started – ya know, the necessities!

My kids LOVE making s’mores, and honestly there is nothing like an old-fashioned s’more with the graham cracker, marshmallow and Hershey chocolate on a roasting stick, but have you heard of Tuck-ins? Oh-Em-Gee! Tuck-ins are the newest obsession and are perfect for your Memorial Day BBQ, summer festivities, AND little hands (LESS MESS)! It is an inside out s’more on a stick!!! Each one contains a crunchy handmade graham cracker, covered in decadent flavored chocolate inside of a fluffy marshmallow! There are a variety of different flavors to choose from including the classic OG flavor! The best part?? Use our exclusive code FRUGAL_AND_THRIVING to grab 20% off your order!

There is just something about the American flag decor that I have always enjoyed seeing and now use in my own home and when I host. I love a good garden flag in the yard as well as a door wreath showing off patriotic spirit. The patriotic flare carries on with decorative beverage coolers, dinnerware sets and fun photo backgrounds.

It’s all fun and games…no BBQ is complete without games! Backyard games are the best friendly casual entertainment among friends and family! I am such a fan of the giant-sized games. There’s giant yard dice to play yardzee and farkle and other crowd favs; there’s also always the favored giant tower stacking game, Tic-Tac-Toe, and ring toss – just don’t forget about good ol’ cornhole!

Of course there is no BBQ without the food…give me all the pickies! Keep it fun and give yourself an easy clean up with paper-lined BBQ baskets for serving. I am a fan of all the foods, but I am definitely a sides girl – my two fav sides are sweet, buttery, crunchy corn on the cob and baked beans! Pair them with a nice loaded burger and a glass of ice-cold iced tea and you got me. Did you know that you can ramp up a can or two of baked beans with just 8 added ingredients? Don’t get me wrong, I’ll eat beans straight out of the can, but add these ingredients and it is a game changer for sure: all ingredients are to taste!

No matter how you spend your MDW this year, whether you’re heading to the shore, attending or hosting a BBQ, or just hanging out in the yard with your fam, we hope that you have great weather, stay safe, and have a great time with family and friends. And of course, thank you to all of the veterans out there!

Not that we ever need an excuse to eat tacos, chips, and guac, buutttt there is a whole day on the calendar for it every week…of course I am talking about Taco Tuesday! However, there is one more day that trumps just a regular Taco Tuesday and it happens once every 365 days – and of course that day is Cinco de Mayo, or the fifth day of May. Cinco de Mayo celebrates the victory of Mexico over the French army in 1962, but these days it’s more commonly dedicated to the culture and deliciousness that is Mexican food…and I am salivating writing this, y’all! To make this day even better, this year it lands on a Friday, or as I say “Fri-Yay,” and now that’s what I’m talking about! See our Cinco de Mayo celebration ideas below.

I am not sure which is more memorable: N’Sync’s “It’s Gonna Be Me” (May) or Star Wars’ “May the force (fourth) be with you!” Either way, both will be sticking around for years to come, and I am here for them both! Star Wars fans around the globe eagerly anticipate the commemorative day to celebrate the very successful and beloved franchise. See our roundup of Star Wars fun below!

Super fans or self-proclaimed Jedi Masters all around the world may be gearing up to binge the whole saga for the umpteenth time, but if you’re like me and haven’t technically watched any of them, there’s no time like the present to play catch up on the whole Star Wars collection, which can be found on Disney+ if you have that streaming service!

“The force will be with you…always.”

– Obi-Wan Kenobi

Depending on your skill level, you may also be honoring the day by building a Lego set recreating a memorable scene, character or ship to add to the collection!

“The Force is strong in my family, my father had it, I have it, my sister has it. You have that power too.”

– Luke Skywalker

Is Star Wars a family-wide phenom in your house? Check out some of this family-friendly decor that I came across. Whether the kids are baby Yoda fans like mine, or the chef of the house could use some new kitchen utensils and essentials to cook like a Jedi, or your workspace needs a little boost of the force, there is plenty of themed decor that will not disappoint!

“Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is.”

– Yoda

If your kiddos are anything like mine, they loooovvvveee books! A favorite collection of mine growing up were the Little Golden Books and don’t think for a second that I don’t get them when I can for my crew! So this May 4th, you can guarantee that we will be reading one from the Little Golden Book Star Wars library!

However you spend the day, just remember to “Do. Or do not. There is no try.” – Yoda and May the fourth be with you all!

Kristy’s Beauty Pops: These beauty pops are like a facial in a box! I love the way they make my skin look and feel.

Krista’s Cheeseboard Inspiration: I’m obsessed with these charcuterie board cards! 50 different charcuterie board ideas with recipes and how to set up – a charcuterie lover’s dream!

Faith’s Pajamas: These satin pjs are classy and cozy! The material is so soft and silky, and it makes me feel so luxurious! The rhinestone buttons are a fun accent and really make these pjs pop. I do find them to run a little large (I’m wearing an XS) so I would recommend sizing down!

Kristy’s Initial Necklace: This initial necklace is so subtle yet so stylish! I love how it adds a little bit of personality to my everyday look without being overwhelming.

Krista’s Heating Pad: I love this neck and shoulder heating pad. It’s perfect for those that carry all that tension in their neck/shoulders like I do. It is also weighted (very lightly) so it stays on the spots needed!

Faith’s Coffee Table Tray: I absolutely love this sleek coffee table tray! The gold finished rim has a black mirrored interior and it perfectly complements the rest of my decor. It’s also pretty roomy so I can easily fit a plant, a candle, and some coasters.

Kristy’s Portable Charger: This portable charger is a life saver! I’m going to take it with me everywhere I go – I’m always on my phone and it’s always running out of battery. This little guy is a game changer.

Krista’s Tea Infuser: I love tea and I LOVE manatees – so combining them both with this absolutely adorable tea infuser is a win-win for me!

Faith’s Yoga Cards: These yoga pose cards are so fun! There’s 100 different cards so you can pull one a day and practice that pose, or choose a handful and create your own yoga flow with them!

Kristy’s Slippers: The comfiest slippers ever!! They’re easy to slip on and perfect for wearing around the house…and they look adorable with all my loungewear.

Thanks for reading!! We’d love to hear some of your favorite holiday gifts in the comments xo.

Kristy’s Living Proof Haircare: Living Proof has the best dry shampoo hands down! No residue left behind and it smells so clean!

Krista’s Family Game: This charades game is serious fun for the whole family! You can play classic charades or a cool new version where each player takes turns guessing while the rest of the team acts out the clues! It definitely makes for lots of laughs and enjoyable quality time with the fam.

Kristy’s Elf on the Shelf Tape: This Elf on the Shelf tape is great for making more mischief because now I can make my elf posable! So many more ideas and so much more troublemaking!

Faith’s UGG Boots: I am an UGG girl through and through. They are my go-to shoes in the winter and I wanted a new pair that was little classier! I love how the gold zipper detail on these minis adds just the smallest bit of style to the tried-and-true comfort of these iconic boots.

Kristy’s Pet Hair Remover: This thing is amazing!! It grabs every last hair from my furniture and runners – and between me, my kids, and my dogs, there’s a LOT of hair.

Krista’s Lip Tint: I love this Kylie Wizard of Oz PH balance lip tint – it feels so smooth, it’s not sticky, and it changes color based on the PH of your skin! Some days it’s a pretty light purple, some days (like today) it’s a light shimmery pink…I love that it’s always a surprise! Plus it’s the Wicked Witch color, and I’m playing her part in a play this December which makes it extra fun!!

Kristy’s Rug Grippers: These rug grippers are the best! They are super heavy duty and haven’t ruined my floors at all! I now have them on every rug in my house – no more slipping and sliding!

Faith’s Headband & Gloves: I’m getting ready for winter and I needed a couple new cold-weather accessories – C.C. is a Frugal & Thriving favorite brand and these gloves and cable-knit headband are no exception! The headband has a fleece lining, so it keeps my ears super warm, and it looks cute with my hair up or down! The gloves are slightly on the lightweight side and can be worn with a dressier outfit or one that’s more casual. I have super tiny hands and I do find the gloves to be a little big, but not so much so that they can’t get the job done!

Kristy’s ZipFizz: We have purchased these more than 10 times already! Great for a boost of energy with the vitamins and hydration and no jitters or crashing!

Krista’s Books: This box of ten Amelia Bedelia chapter books is great for younger readers- we love reading a chapter a night and finding out what new shenanigans Amelia Bedelia is up to now!

Faith’s Socks: I’m clearly stocking up on all things cozy, but I do love a good pair of snuggly socks! My toes are always cold and a soft, warm pair of socks helps make those chilly days more bearable. These cable-knit socks are not only adorable, they’re also super comfy and I love that they’re knee-high so I can wear them with tall boots.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned for next month’s roundup!! We’d love to hear some of your favorite recent purchases in the comments xo.

Kristy’s Air Purifier: If you don’t have an air purifier, get one!! I cannot believe how much better my rooms feel with this! No stuffy dust or smells lingering around – highly recommend!

Krista’s Eye Mask: I love eye masks and this one is great for those tired eyes! A few minutes with these eye patches on, and my eyes feel instantly refreshed and hydrated!

Kristy’s Perfect Pizza Rack: It literally is the perfect pizza rack! It comes with pizza racks to help keep your pizza separated and it’s adjustable so you can put up to 5 slices! PLUS you can microwave them all at the same time – saving you time! It’s dishwasher safe and I never have to worry about pizza boxes taking up space in the fridge or wasting tin foil!

Fellicia’s Mirror & Tree: I love how this large arched mirror really opens up and brightens my living space while adding contemporary style! And this faux fig tree brings a little bit of low (no) maintenance liveliness!

Faith’s Knife Set: I am not really much of a chef and usually avoid cooking at all costs. But a good knife set is a kitchen must-have, and this sleek matte black set looks as sharp as the blades slice!

Kristy’s Pimple Patches: This time of year always makes me break out and I love these spot stickers for stopping my pimples in action! I pop one of these on and goodbye pesky pimples!

Krista’s Wedge Sneakers: These Dr Scholl shoes though!! They are so comfortable for all day wear and also super cute. They look great dressed up or dressed down, too!

Kristy’s Uncrustable Makers: I love being able to make homemade uncrustables with these! Also great to make chocolate s’mores and stuffed French toast!

Fellicia’s Bench: It’s for sitting, it’s for storage, it’s for style – this bench does it all! It makes for such a cute seating area in front of my big windows and holds all my extra throw blankets!

Krista’s Halloween Activity: I grabbed this Halloween craft for my daughter’s classroom and it was a huge hit!! Make your own spooky creatures and critters with lots of fun decorative stickers.

Faith’s Budget Book: Really tracking my finances and sticking to a budget is something I started doing this year and it has helped so much! I find that having a really pretty budget book actually makes me look forward to sorting my finances, rather than dreading it.

Kristy’s Winter Boots: Grabbed my snow boots this year!! These winter shoes are the three C’s: cute, comfy, and cozy – because sensible snow boots don’t mean you have to sacrifice fashion! And I waterproof them with this to keep them in great condition all season long.

Krista’s Shacket: I love my flannel shacket…it’s great for those brisk fall evenings! This is my new go-to for staying warm while looking stylish.

Kristy’s Battery Organizer: This is one of my favorite purchases yet! There’s nothing quite like having organized batteries (it’s the little things in life)…and now I can easily see which ones I need to stock up on before the holidays!!

Fellicia’s Dry Shampoo: If you feel like you’re hanging on to your sanity by a thread, grab this dry shampoo. I honestly don’t know how anyone can live without it! Just a quick spray makes me feel like I actually have my life together, and makes my hair look (and smell) incredible.

Krista’s Sweater: I love this sweater with lace details!! It’s perfect for a cool fall night or a holiday party. I find that it fits TTS – I ordered a large but could’ve gone with a medium, too.

Faith’s Book: I love all things mystical and spiritual, and this book helps me tap into my inner sorceress! This time of year especially is perfect for practicing a little innocent witchcraft and learning about the occult.

Kristy’s Carpet Cleaner: I swear this is the best carpet spot remover! Can you tell my kids spilled chocolate milk all over the rug? I just spray a little of this on and – boom – you’d never know it was a disaster zone just moments before.

Krista’s Elf on the Shelf Props: This Elf on the Shelf front door set is a fun new addition for our frisky little friend that will be visiting soon enough! It’s not always easy coming up with ideas for Santa’s mischievous helper, and these props help! (see our roundup of other Elf on the Shelf ideas here for even more inspiration)

Faith’s Desk Lamp: I bought this desk lamp after weeks of searching for the right one, and I couldn’t be happier with it! It’s on the smaller side so it doesn’t look out of place or take up too much room on my desk, and I love that the open geometric design gives it style and personality without being overwhelming. The unique amber Edison bulbs are a great finishing touch!

Kristy’s Blackout Curtains: These blackout curtains are the perfect addition to any little one’s room! I love how the layer of tulle and star cutouts make the whole room feel magical. There are more colors available, too. (check out how I put together my daughter’s princess station here)

Fellicia’s Muddy Bites: I mean, do these need an explanation?! These mini waffle cone snacks are melt-in-your mouth, definitely-can’t-have-just-one delicious…and dangerous.

Krista’s Boots: These are amazing, comfortable boots for an extremely affordable price. They’re versatile yet stylish and I can wear them all season long. I wore them with no blister issues, which is always a bonus!

Kristy’s Doormat: I’m over here pulling out all my fall decorations. It’s so invigorating…bring on the sweater weather! I’m definitely ready to cozy up indoors.

Fellicia’s Pillow: Okay, if you have any kind of neck pain, get this Casper pillow!! It’s so comfy – I literally feel like I’m sleeping on that cute little ghost. I’ve also been neck-pain free for over a week now!

Krista’s Garden Flag: I love this fall flag for the garden from September to Thanksgiving! These autumn-inspired gnomes serve as a cute, friendly welcome to our home.

Faith’s Coffee Mug: I drink a lot of coffee and a lot of tea, and this classy monogram mug makes my morning beverage even more enjoyable! The black and gold letter on a solid white background definitely fits my aesthetic, and I love that the 16oz size lets me drink a little extra coffee without feeling guilty.

Kristy’s Candies: I grabbed these RingPops and Fun Dip for my kiddos’ classroom goodie bags, because who doesn’t love a classic candy?! And these creepy-themed versions are perfect for Halloween.

Fellicia’s Puppy Treats: We love our pups here at Frugal and Thriving and our pups love these Milk-Bones! The spooky shapes make these biscuits the perfect Halloween treat for your furry friends.

Kristy’s Runner: I love how this runner brightens up my hallway and adds a little dimension to the space! It helps turn a drab, mediocre hallway into an eye-catching area of my home.
