Snow days are the best days! Waking up to a world covered in wonderous white and getting to stay home and watch the beautiful, crisp snow fall down and blanket the earth with its bright, powdery magic is one of the most peaceful feelings. When that peace and quiet is interrupted by the kids home from school wondering how they’re possibly going to fill their free day, we’ve got you covered. See our guide to snow day fun below, including activities, outerwear, and some of our favorite snowy day snacks.
Snow Day Activities
Keep snow day boredom at bay with these fun indoor and outdoor activities! If you don’t feel up to braving the cold, stay inside with the kiddos and let them pass the time with one of these entertaining escapades. For hands-on enjoyment, this build-your-own ice skating rink, snowman wobbler kit, insta-snow powder, or these plush snowballs for a safe indoor snowball fight are great options. If you’re looking for a quieter activity, a winter activity workbook, winter word games, a snow day story book, or a fun “roll a snowflake” game will provide hours of pleasure.
If you’re feeling adventurous, opt for outdoor amusement instead! Build a snowman and decorate him with these snowman accessories and snow magic kit, construct snow forts with this toy kit and then have a snowball fight using these snowball makers, or blast your way through the fresh powder with a snow tube, ski scooter, or miniature snowplow. And if you want to teach your kids the value of responsibility and hard work, hand them this kid-friendly shovel and send them to the driveway or sidewalk to get cleaning!

Snow Day Snacks
Snow days aren’t complete without a deliciously heartwarming snack and an accompanying cup of hot cocoa! Bake some cookies to fill your home with the amazing smell of warm sugar and to fill your tummies with heavenly goodness, and make a little hot chocolate to wash down those sweet treats. Kristy’s go-to snow day cookies are these jam-filled thumbprint cookies (using the jam from this Bonne Maman advent calendar), these holiday toffees, and classic chocolate chip!
For your hot chocolate, keep it simple with these instant hot chocolate packets, or make a homemade variety! Simply warm milk of your choice over low heat for two or three minutes, toss in some chocolate chips (adjusting the amount for your preference of chocolatiness) and whisk until melted, then add a pinch of salt. Stir and let it warm until the mixture bubbles slightly around the edges and pour into your favorite mug! Top with marshmallows or whipped cream and enjoy. Bon appétit!
